Last weekend I hopped on a train from London Euston to Birmingham International to spend the weekend with BBF (bestie blogger friend) Beckie. Unfortunately we were one gang member down as the beautiful Gemma was unable to attend, but our spirits were high as Beckie planned to give me my first experience of Birmingham! As well as bar crawling (got to be done!) the main reason I had made the trip was to attend the Friction Free Shaving Blogger’s Event, which happened to be a cocktail masterclass (which kicked off our bar crawl to a great start!).
FFS is a new company with a BRILLIANT idea. Beauty boxes are everywhere nowadays and all provide luxury goodies once a month. But what about items of necessity?
I can definitely say that I overuse my razor blades. Check out my true to life post all about my shaving routine here if ya like. Refill blades are just SO expensive – £18 for 4 blades?! I’m not a millionaire! FFS provides 4 blades (one a week) in their little subscription box that fits through your postbox! No waiting for the postman. No popping to Boots. Fresh, clean blades, once a month, on your doorstep. You can’t get much better than that!
We met up with Abbie before going into the event – we were unfortunately about half an hour late so felt super awful walking in when the cocktail masterclass had already begun!
The bartender taught us how to make three different cocktails – each named after one of the razors available from FFS. Unfortunately, as I am ridiculously fussy when it comes to drinks – soft and alcoholic – I didn’t like the first two we made (Limoncello and a milk-whisky conoction. Rough!). I don’t think the other girls minded, though, as they were able to drink mine up! Fortunately, the last cocktail we made was a blackcurrant, rose and prosecco based cocktail – my kind of cocktail!
In between making each cocktails, there were rounds of ‘ring of fire’ (kind of). I was able to participate in a ‘who can fit the most grapes in their mouth’ game which somehow I managed to lose. (How?! I have a gob the size of England!!)
We spoke to the FFS team after the event, all of whom were absolutely lovely and so welcoming. Ever since I discovered them on Twitter, I’ve just loved the concept, so it was great to finally meet the brains behind the brand. I even had a cheeky face swap with their model… Got to be done!
We were lucky enough to head home with a goody bag including a branded FFS t-shirt, popcorn (yum!), a whisk (bring on the baking blog posts!) and most importantly an ENGRAVED RAZOR. Yeah – you read that right. It has my name engraved on it! How cool is that?!
The razor itself is the Samantha razor. It is beautiful and gold and to my surprise – amazing quality. It’s heavy like a good quality men’s razor – much different to the cheap, flimsy, light razors that flood the women’s market at the moment. The refills are only £7 a month – considering I pay about £15 for razor refills at the moment that is such a bargain!
If you need an even lower budget razor, why not try the Faye? These heads only have 2 blades but will still give an awesome shave!
