Salon Worthy Brows and Lashes with Colorsport 30 Day Tints

I don’t know about you, but for me, brows and lashes are the most important parts of my every day makeup routine. I like a darker, more defined brow, and very rarely leave the house without filling my eyebrows in. I feel naked without them! Applying product to create a perfect brow is definitely rather time consuming – I have been known to spend 20 minutes on my brows and brows alone! So, when the opportunity to trial Colorsport’s 30 Day Brow Tint* and 30 Day Mascara* popped into my inbox, I couldn’t wait to give them a go.

Colorsport’s tints have been created with the hope of replacing expensive salon procedures, and allowing you to tint your brows and lashes from the comfort of your own home. Each tint can be used multiple times, meaning the kits are extremely good value for money – no more hefty £30 visits to the salon, just for an eyebrow tint! I mean, it’s not as if we don’t already have enough beauty procedures to spend our time and money on, is it!

Don’t Forget To Patch Test

Obviously, the dye kits do use chemicals, so before you go putting the dye on your face, you do need to complete a patch test. Now…I’m not going to lie. I have used box hair dye before, and I definitely have ignored the warning to patch test. Now that I’m a little older and wiser, I cannot stress the importance of patch testing enough. Just because the product works well for another person, doesn’t mean it’ll work for you. You could have an unknown allergy to one of the ingredients, or maybe your skin is just too sensitive and doesn’t like foreign chemicals. For the sake of a quick patch test that will take you all of five minutes, is it really worth risking an allergic reaction? You could come up with a rash, acne, a stinging sensation or even be seriously burned if your skin doesn’t agree with the ingredients.

Prior to brow tints, lash tints, hair dye or ANY form of dye/chemicals on your skin – DO A PATCH TEST.

Side note – this applies for salon procedures too. If your beauty therapist DOESN’T patch test you then go elsewhere…. they obviously don’t know what they’re doing, and aren’t putting your safety first!

The patch test was super easy to do – just mix up a small amount of each product and apply on the inner crease of your elbow. Make sure your skin is clean, and keep checking visually for any skin reactions. If it stings, or you develop a rash or anything like that – wipe it off immediately and thoroughly clean with water. If it persists, or worsens, consult your doctor for advice. Thorough instructions are included in the kits – make sure you read them carefully, and don’t take my advice as holy grail – I’m a blogger, not a medical professional, guys!

Now, I do hope I haven’t scared anyone off with the importance of conducting a patch test, because I was absolutely fine with it! I had no changes in my skin, nor did I feel any stinging. So, after 48 hours and still no changes or symptoms of allergy, I deduced that I was fine to go ahead in the treatment.

Colorsport 30 Day Brow Tint

I decided to start off with the 30 Day Brow Tint*, because, let’s be honest, I love me a good brow. The tint is supposed to last 30 days (or until the hairs fall out, cos you know, you’re not changing the actual follicle), and each box includes enough dye for up to 16 applications. At only £8.25 each, this means each application is costing you approx 50p – which is pretty good value for money!

In the box, you get a dye cream, developer lotion, wand, brush and the actual tray that holds all of this has a handy lil bowl to mix it all up in, so you don’t need to dirty any dishes. The application of the product is pretty simple, but you do have to prep your eyebrows before you get going, to ensure you get a good final result.

Prep Your Brows

To prep your brows, you want to clean them and remove any makeup with a non oily cleanser. When they’re clean, brush them to their natural shape, and use a cotton bud to apply petroleum jelly around the eyebrow (this means that if you accidentally get any on your skin, it won’t stain). I actually didn’t have any petroleum jelly, so I used Sudocrem, and this worked perfectly well, too.

Apply The Brow Tint

Once your brows are perfectly prepped, you want to mix up the formula. Blob some dye cream into the mixing bowl, and add drops of developer lotion to a 1:1 ratio. The instructions say to use 1cm dye cream and 10 drops of developer lotion – now I wasn’t going to whack out a ruler, so I kind of just guessed, but I’m presuming my ratio was about right as it did look like the right consistency.

Mix it all together well, and then use the brush or wand to apply to your brows. Try not to press it onto your skin, as if you would a pencil – you want to lightly sweep the hairs. If you get a small bit on the skin beneath your brows, it’s not the end of the world – it’ll just look fuller and thicker. If you don’t want that look, just use a cotton bud to wipe it off your skin and reapply to the brow hairs with more of a light hand!

Final Results

Leave the mixture on for 1-2 minutes, or if you want a darker brow, up to 5 minutes maximum. I actually opted for the 2 minute mark, as I wanted to test it out first of all to see just how dark they would go, without leaving it on for longer.

Use a damp cotton pad to carefully wipe the cream and dye away, and voila, your brow is dyed!

In the above picture, you can quite obviously tell the difference – the brow on the left has been dyed (and is still a little wet from the cleaning process) and the brow on the right is my natural brow. It is quite drastically darker, and has even picked up some of the lighter, shorter hairs to make the brow as a whole look much more full.

It was then time to repeat the process on the other eyebrow to even them both out!

There we have it! My finished brows!

Overall, I’m extremely chuffed with the results – the whole process takes about 10 minutes, so can be easily incorporated into a busy schedule. Plus, you only have to re-apply the tint every 30 days (or whatever your hair cycle length is), so I think we can all spare 10 minutes every month. I can definitely tell a difference in my natural brows – when I’m taking off my makeup, I’m like ‘have I really got it all off?!’. I do think next time I reapply the tints I will go for slightly longer, though, as I prefer quite a dark, defined brow, and would love my brows to be just a couple of shades lighter.

Colorsport 30 Day Mascara

Once my brows were looking on fleek, it was time for me to work some magic on my lashes. The 30 Day Mascara works in a similar way to the brow tint – prep, apply and remove.

Prep Your Lashes

Again, make sure your lashes are clean and free of any makeup or residue, using a non oily cleanser. Pop some petroleum jelly (or Sudocrem!) underneath your eyes, then press on the paper eye guards included in the kit so that they stick to your skin and stay in place under your eye.

Apply The Solutions

Unlike the brow tint, the two solutions included in the 30 Day Mascara kit actually have to be applied separately – so don’t mix them together! Use a cotton bud to apply the Eyelash Colour Solution 1 onto your lashes – with your eyes closed, obviously. Make sure your lashes are soaked with the solution – for me, this meant dipping a clean cotton bud into the solution and applying a few times. (Don’t use the same cotton bud for hygiene and contamination reasons!)

Leave the solution on for 1 minute, then use the mascara wand/brush provided to apply the Eyelash Colour Gel 2 onto your lashes, on top of the first solution. I tried to really work it into my lashes, both from below and above, to make sure the gel was evenly distributed on all lashes.

Final Results

Again, you’ll want to leave the solution on your lashes for about 1 minute, before removing with wet cotton pads. Your lashes will then be finished and tinted! Repeat the process on the other eye to ensure your lashes match.

Below are my lashes (and brows!) fully tinted –

Overall, I must admit I wasn’t as impressed with the 30 Day Mascara. I can’t really tell much of a difference, if I am completely honest, but that could be because I have naturally quite dark lashes anyway. I do think they darkened slightly, as some of the lashes towards the inner corner of my eyes become more pronounced and obvious. The 30 Day Mascara is obviously a tint as opposed to a lengthening and volumising mascara – so you can’t expect your lashes to look like you’ve just applied Benefit’s They’re Real Mascara.

I think the 30 Day Mascara would work extremely well on someone with fair/blonde lashes, as the tint would darken them, meaning you’ll definitely notice the difference.

The brow tint would suit all who fill their brows in already – which, lets be honest, is most of us! Whether you have naturally blonde brows and want to completely eradicate the need of filling them in, or whether you have medium-dark brows already (like me!) and just want them to be a touch darker and thicker – the tint has your needs covered! At around 50p per application, what have you got to lose?
