Why I Love Smaller Brands ft Blake Boutique

I love working with smaller brands – you get the chance to discover products you may never have come across, and also can allow smaller businesses well deserved exposure they might never normally get when up against companies with a multi million pound advertising budget. This is exactly why when I was offered to review lipglosses from Blake Boutique, a small, independent beauty brand, I jumped at the chance.

Let’s start off with first impressions: packaging. The lipglosses themselves come in a simple, black box with white writing, similar to MAC, but that suits me fine – I love minimilastic, clean packaging. The tube of lipgloss isn’t anything special – again, simple and plain, stereotypical lipgloss packaging. It is good quality packaging, but it is just a shame the company name isn’t larger and more prominant – it might be a little tricky for some people to read!

I was sent the colours Nibble* and Remake*. How cute are the names?! I’m so glad I was sent these colours, as I tend to opt for nude/pink tones with lipgloss, as I feel red lipglosses don’t suit me and are difficult to work with. Blake Boutique also do a gorgeous dark brown that I’d love to try!

Although it doesn’t look like it would be, Nibble actually seems to match my lip colour when applied. It just glosses them up nicely without changing the colour too much – perfect for work! Remake is a little darker so gives my lips a nice dark nude colour, but still can be easily worn everyday. The shimmer in both of the lipglosses is very subtle – plenty enough to give a hint of sparkle but gentle enough for any occasion and to remain professional if needed!

Both lipglosses are quite thin – this is perfect for me, as I find thick lipglosses messy and difficult. Of course, my hair does stick to my lips when I’m wearing them, but that’s to be expected from such a glossy lipgloss! You don’t need to reapply them too often either, but obviously every few hours you’ll need to top up.

The lipglosses are only £6.95 which I think is great value for money!

Blake Boutique isn’t the only smaller, off the high street brand I’ve been lucky enough to have worked with since starting blogging. If you haven’t already checked out my posts featuring Corbico Jewellery, Puriskin and Anubis, be sure to give them a read – they are some other awesome companies I’ve discovered.
