If you don’t know: Father’s Day is on Sunday 16th June. Stop what you’re doing, go into your calendar app and put it in your diary! It’s SO easy to forget these celebratory days, but it’s SO important to the fathers (and brothers and grandfathers etc etc!) around you that you make them feel special on their special day. You know who really deserves to feel special this Father’s day? All the first time dads out there! To help you out: I’ve put together a comprehensive First Father’s Day Gift Guide!
This might seem a little out of the ordinary from me, and you might be thinking; Jodie, why are you writing about Father’s Day? WELL MY FRIENDS, I gave birth to a gorgeous baby boy not long ago, didn’t I! Catch up!
Now, let’s get stuck straight in – obviously, there’s all the ‘typical’ Father’s Day presents: jumpers, beer, a framed family photo, a meal out. However, for a new dad’s FIRST Father’s Day gift, you’re going to want something that says: ‘I appreciate you. You’re doing amazing. You deserve some ‘me time’ too!’. New Dads often get overlooked – everyone is so concentrated on the baby and Mum’s health, that we sometimes forget about the Father’s wellbeing, too. I’ve chatted a little more about this in the ‘Rest and Recover’ section in this post: 5 Things I Wish I’d Known in the First Week of Being a Mum.
Don’t Forget the Card!
Hands up if you always focus on the present and completely forget about getting a card?! Cards are normally seen as the ‘boring’ part of a present, but why not make them part of the present too – get a card that conveys a message!
Love Layla have a huge range of cards for Father’s Day – so many of which would make excellent first Father’s Day gifts. I’ve picked out a few of my favourites above – they’re cheeky, funny, and oh so suitable for a new dad. They even come with a little ‘coupon’ you can give him – my guess is most new dads might opt for the ‘lie-in’ option… I know I would! What would you choose?
Psst! Love Layla’s deadline to make sure you have your card in time is midnight 13th June – best be prepared and pick up your card before then!
Let Dad Have a Pamper, Too!
How better to say: I appreciate you, thank you for looking after mum and baby, but it’s about time you look after yourself’ than putting together a little gift set full of pamper goodies.
Pick up a toiletry bag, fill it with some facial cleansers and shaving goodies, and send Dad off for an hour to have a bath, pamper and CHILL.
The grooming experts at BRISK have launched a new range of skincare products, especially for men. Harnessing the naturally powerful properties of malt extract, their new skincare is packed full of anti inflammatory and moisturising power, perfect for a tired new dad! Let him have a proper pamper to soften, refresh and tame his beard using their beard oil and balm – both of which work excellently from stubble through to a full mane. Their range is available at Morrison’s too – so this is a great present if you want something you can pick up on your weekly shop!
If he’s more of a clean shaven man, why not team the BRISK skincare with Wilkinson Swords Hydro 5 sense razor, which does the thinking for him thanks to shock-absorb technology which auto-adjusts the amount of pressure it is putting on your face. Sounds perfect for when he hasn’t had much sleep!
Time for a Tea Break!
I’m nearly 3 months in with little baby Arthur, and I don’t think I could tell you how many cups of tea and coffee have been long forgotten and gone cold. Why not treat dad to an uninterrupted cup of tea. That means: no nappies, no feeds, no rocking off to sleep. Just dad and a brew. Ahh. What a perfect first Father’s Day gift, ey!
Who am I kidding – he needs something to open to! Why not get a personalised mug, so from every sip he’s reminded of his beautiful new baby? I’m loving this family tree personalised mug from norma&dorothy – they do lots of different designs on trendy enamel mugs. They even have personalised slate coasters, too – so you can get a matching mug and coaster. I’m going to suggest Taylor take his to work with him – that way, Arthur is always by his side!
Make it the perfect brew by stocking up on his fave type of drink. For Taylor – it’s Nespresso, so I’ll be stocking him up with some new Nespresso pods. Paired with some caramel syrup, he can make the most amazing homemade lattes for ultimate relaxation. Or, if you’ve got a bit of a budget – upgrade to a nice new Nespresso machine!
…or Something a Little Stronger?
It might be well and good stocking up on caffeine and hot drinks, but let’s not kid ourselves – most new Dads are actually gagging for a cold, uninterrupted beer.
Instead of just picking up a crate of normal beer, why not get him a craft beer subscription box? Taylor has been loving Flavourly at the moment – he gets to try a variety of craft beers for a fraction of the cost, all whilst supporting smaller breweries.
What better for Dad to store his beers in than a personalised beer trug from I Just Love It? Extremely well made and sturdy, you can even get a cute little message engraved from his beloved new son (and let’s be honest: his favourite drinking buddy in 18 years’ time!).
Personalise the Baby!
I think this might be a personal favourite of mine… why not get a little personalised bodysuit? There’s a ton of choices out there – especially on Etsy – but I ended up choosing a little Game of Thrones number seeing as our fave show has now come to an end. I’m sure Arthur won’t have a clue what this bodysuit means when he’s older but for us: He’s our own little Drogon!
A Few More Bits and Bobs..
A personalised kit for his new favourite watching the footy partner, a bluetooth speaker, a leather passport holder from Zippo or some smellies for his desk… there’s so many ideas out there that would make the most perfect first Father’s Day gift!
I hope one of these ideas sparks inspiration for you and that your find your perfect first Father’s Day gift. For more ideas, check out my Amazon Storefront!
