I’ll admit it – I love TV. I love films, too, but ever since my dad gave me his Netflix password (fanks dadda) I have become so obsessed with binge watching TV shows. It’s unhealthy, I know, but come on – we all do it! I’ve recently been off work for a few weeks due to a difficult tonsillectomy recovery, so I got a LOT of shows watched. I love reading other people’s Netflix suggestions, so thought I’d share mine…
1. Orphan Black
Orphan black sounds a bit weird at first, which is why I didn’t watch it for quite some time, despite people telling me I should. It sounds all a bit too sciencey and sci-fi for me – clones? Really? But boyyyyyyy was I wrong! It. Is. Amazing. You instantly get hooked and Tatiana Maslany, who plays the clones (and also happens to look EXACTLY like my bff), is such an amazing actress that you completely forget it’s actually the same person acting various different roles. Each personality is just on point, all the time. The actual plot is really good too, thickening as the seasons go on, with some good twists you don’t see coming!
2. Prison Break
Prison Break was super popular when it was first aired many years ago, but seeing as it had stopped airing by the time I was 10 years old, and it’s about pretty much everything that is illegal in life, it’s pretty understandable why I didn’t watch it the first time round. After it was recommended to me by a friend, I thought I’d give it a shot, and, woah. It’s insaaaane. I’m completely in love with Wentworth Miller who plays Michael – his acting is amazing and he gives the character and plot so much depth. I’m not going to lie, I didn’t love all the seasons – binge watching Prison Break is a bit of an emotional rollercoaster. I loved Season 1, hated Season 2, thoroughly enjoyed Season 3, and Season 4 was okay. But as a whole TV show – love it. I deffo didn’t expect the ending, either. It’ll shock ya.
3. Stranger Things
This is a much newer TV show on the scene – so new, in fact, that there is only one season to binge on! Similar to Orphan Black, I was skeptical at first because I knew this had something to do with aliens and all that nonsense. Boredom hit, though, so I thought I’d see what the hype is about. My thoughts? It’s scary. It’s dark. There is some really brilliant acting. Millie Bobby Brown (who plays Eleven) ACTUALLY shaved her head – pretty darn impressive. Great to see Winona Ryder (Girl, Interrupted anyone?!). Conclusion? Easy to watch, worth a weekend binge. Maybe wait until Winter hits and snuggle up with a blanket to protect yourself when the creepy music starts.
4. Bates Motel
I actually discovered Bates Motel before I had Netflix – no idea how. Possibly someone else’s Netflix recommendations!? Idk. Anyway, it’s essentially a prequel to that 1960’s Pyscho film that I’ve had to turn off every time I’ve tried to watch it (I’m a wuss, the music just gets in my bones!). We follow Norman as a teenager, who has a really weird/pervy/idek relationship with his Mum, Norma. There’s a lot of murder and action, but for me it was Emma’s love story and Norman’s mind that made this show good. I cannot recommend Bates Motel enough and I reaaaally hope they do another season.
5. Jessica Jones
Last but not least, I have to pay tribute to the season I am currently watching – Jessica Jones. As with Orphan Black & Stranger Things, I wasn’t sure if this was going to be my cup of tea. I knew it was about some kind of superhero, so thought it was going to be really cringey, with suits and all sorts…. but I couldn’t have been more wrong! The powers and those who have powers are actually really subtle, and it is all done in a way that is very realistic. I’ve started to lose interest toward the end of the season if I’m honest. I’m probably only still watching it because I really like Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones) as an actress, and well… David Tennant…as a villain. Need I say more?
I’ve not included Pretty Little Liars in the above list because quite frankly, I shouldn’t have to – it’s bladdy brilliant and everyone should be watching it already! Are there are any other shows you think I should be watching on Netflix? Have you done a similar post to this? Let me know in the comments below!
