Glossybox – September 2016

When I opened my September Glossybox, I knew it was going to be the best box in a while – purely because it was packed full! I was lucky enough to have seven products to try out this month, so I definitely got my money’s worth! This month’s box was in collaboration with Red Magazine. Let’s jump straight in…

Glossybox, Jodetopia, Too Faced, Vitamasques, The Body Shop, MUA, Revlon, Rodial, The Organic Pharmacy

The first thing to catch my eye was the MUA Hall of Fame eyeshadow palette. In last month’s box, we were given an eyeshadow palette of choice, however Glossybox actually gave me the wrong palette. I gave them a quick tweet and discovered that many other people had the same problem. Glossybox corrected the problem, though – anyone that had complained of having the incorrect palette was sent the correct palette in this month’s box, in addition to all the other goodies! Hall of fame is a more neutral palette featuring 12 of the brand’s most popular shades. This palette is much more ‘me’ on an everyday occasion than the original palette I was sent, so I’m excited for all the neutral smokey eye looks this will enable me to create! You really can’t get much better for only £4.00, too.

Another product I was expecting, was the Too Faced Better Than Sex Waterproof Mascara. This was in last month’s sneak peak, so we all knew we were going to get to try this out this month. I’ve heard people rave about this mascara, and obviously Too Faced is an amazing brand, so my expectations were high. I am glad to say the mascara definitely lived up to them! I would say this is better than my drugstore favouritesEssence I Love Extreme & Revlon Volume and Length Magnified. I would put it on a par with Benefit’s They’re Real mascara. I’m secretly a little gutted we only got a mini mascara on the box – I might have to repurchase the full size when it runs out! It really is waterproof, too – you need a strong oil based eye makeup remover to shift it!

Oh what a surprise – another eyeliner in one of my beauty boxes! I hate to be a pessimistic polly, but I am just SO fed up of getting black eyeliner pencils in my beauty boxes. It’s never ending! I have so many now, I actually give my eyeliner pot to my friends and beg them to take them. I just haven’t mastered using an eyeliner pencil – it goes everywhere and looks so messy. I much prefer a liquid eyeliner – shame we never get any of those, Glossybox! The Rodial Smokey Eye Pen is a typical black eyeliner – sharp nib, glides on, and a good colour. Just not my cuppa, I’m afraid.

This month there were two face masks – face masks are probably one of my favourite things to get in my Glossybox, as I don’t really buy face masks myself, so it is a nice treat to pick up my skin if it is feeling a bit tired. First up, I tried the Vitamasques Hydro Face Mask. This was a sheet mask – it consisted of a netting on one side and a gel/jelly like substance on the other side, all of which is saturated in serum. Unlike other sheet masks I’ve tried which never seem to fit on my head correctly, this face mask came in two sections, so you could fit it onto your face with more precision. I definitely felt the benefit of this – I was actually able to precisely lay the mask around my jaw line, whereas normally sheet masks hang off my jawline so that area of skin doesn’t reap any benefits. After using the face mask, my skin felt smooth and hydrated. There was some serum still left on my face which I slowly rubbed into my skin. Overall I am pretty impressed with this mask! £7.99 is a little out of my price range for a one off mask, mind you.

I also received a sample of The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask. I’ve heard many a great review of this new range of masks from The Body Shop, so I really expected it to be good, and I thought I would fall in love… Unfortunately, I didn’t. I used the mask after washing my face, and was very shocked when the second I applied it, it started a burning sensation on my skin! I tried to grit my teeth and deal with it (maybe it is meant to burn a little?!) but it got SO bad that I had to wash it off straight away. It’s a shame, as I really wanted to love the mask, but obviously it’s just not suitable for my skin… how strange, as I’ve never had this problem with a Body Shop product before?!

Another product type that seems massively over done in Glossyboxes are lip products. I don’t mind receiving bundles of lipsticks so I can build up my range of shades, but I have a ridiculous amount of lip balms and lipglosses that just end up sitting unused! In this month’s box I received The Organic Pharmacy Antioxidant lip balm.  Nevertheless, for the purpose of this blog post, I thought I’d give it a go. My thoughts? It does the job and keeps my lips nicely hydrated, without being overly tacky. The only negative is it has these gritty bits in, which feel weird and kind of look weird on your lips too. It kind of feels like its meant to be a really gentle lip scrub, so I checked the website and – nope, deffo a lip balm. Strange.

I’m not going to lie – I’ve not had a chance to use the Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy Diamond Top Coat yet. Since discovering Sensationail and Gel Touch’s Polish to Gel kits, I’ve not been using a normal nail polish top coat. I’m not yet sure whether I’ll keep this to try out or give it away in my next giveaway… if you would want to give this nail polish a go, let me know in the comments below!
