Put on a Fresh Face with PMD Personal Microderm

Those that read my blog regularly will know that I struggle with my skin – I get dry patches, I get blemishes and discolouration, I get sore under the skin spots and I struggle with blackheads. Whilst my skin isn’t awful, it is a complete pain in the arse. I’ve been trying to clear my skin up using various different products, so when the opportunity came to test out the PMD Personal Microderm* I couldn’t wait to give it a go.

The PMD Personal Microderm promises clinical-quality microdermabrasion results, revealing fresh and radiant skin. You should be left with ‘your smoothest, healthiest complexion ever’. Big claims!

So, how does it work? The PMD Personal Microderm removes dead skin cells by using a spinning disc which deeply exfoliates your skin. This triggers fresh, healthy cell growth and exposes new, smoother skin. By removing the dead skin cells, your skin can also absorb products better – PMD claim that skin care products are up to 20 times more effective when combined with microdermabrasion.

At first, this device looks a little terrifying. It’s a little larger than I expected so looks rather scary and complicated, but actually it is neither! The kit comes with an instructional DVD as well as an instruction booklet – the DVD is really quick but goes over exactly how to use it, including recommended skin prep and finish, so definitely give it a watch before using the PMD Personal Microderm. The device really is so simple to use – you just sweep it across your skin quickly in upwards motions, passing over each area of skin only once. It really is a 3 minute treatment!

As your skin gets used to the treatment, you replace the discs inside the device with harsher, stronger discs. This strengthens and deepens the exfoliation. As this is such a deep exfoliation, you shouldn’t use any other exfoliator or repeat the process for 6-7 days after the treatment, meaning this is a weekly treatment. The longer you use the PMD Personal Microderm, the better your results should be and the more improvements you should see in your skin.

So – did the PMD Personal Microderm live up to it’s claims? Well, first of all it is definitely as easy to use as it claims – once I had got the hang of it I had no problems using the device – it was a quick and easy 3 minute treatment!

I was a little worried about not being able to use any other exfoliating products whilst using the device, as my skin gets dry patches and the only way to remove these is to exfoliate them off and then heavily hydrate. However, the PMD Personal Microderm exfoliated my skin so well I didn’t even need to use any other products! I no longer suffer from dry patches after using the device, so makes my daily routine much quicker in that I no longer need to scrub at my skin.

Whilst I noticed a slight improvement in my skin tone and blemishes after a few weeks of using the device, I have to admit I wasn’t completely blown away. For $159 I was expecting my skin to completely be blemish and discolouration free, however unfortunately this wasn’t the case – I still get spots, I still get redness and I still have blocked pores. Bummer.

For me, the highlight of this product is the exfoliation – the PMD Personal Microderm is perfect for you if like me you rely on an exfoliator. You could use this product on a Sunday night and have soft, smooth skin right through to the next week – making your 9-5 routine that little bit easier to handle! Or what about using it before going on holiday? Smooth, soft skin for the remainder of your relaxing week away!
