The Benefits of Coding Lessons for Children

As of 2014, coding lessons started to take place at school. Children as young as 7 are taught the skill in an attempt to address the skills gaps that we are seeing in this country. This move is one that offers many opportunities and will help to elevate career prospects as it is believed that by the year 2030, 75% of jobs will require advanced digital skills. This helps them to future proof themselves and also understand the way that the world works around them. To learn more about the benefits of coding lessons for children, we spoke to a private school and here’s what they shared.

Problem Solving Skills

Every single job, regardless of what it is, requires problem solving skills. They concern the ability to come up with innovative and logical solutions when met with problems. Coding is similar in that sense as children must think of ways to solve issues and apply what they’ve learned to different situations with their thinking skills.

Maths

Math ability is needed in coding which can help children in the subject as well as many others that require maths logic. Subjects such as science and technology.

Resilience

If at first you don’t succeed, try, and try again. Coding is an area that doesn’t have straight forward answers. Trial and error is often needed which means that things can go wrong from time to time. It can be disheartening for children but provide exactly what they need to develop resilience and patience.

Improve Career Prospects

We’ve already talked about the number of jobs that are expected to involve advanced digital skills. Those that do also yield greater salaries and offer higher levels of job security as technical skills such as coding are in demand.

A Better Understanding of the World

Almost everything around us is programmed. Having even a basic understanding of coding can help children to appreciate and understand how technology works.
